Milton Heritage Properties Business Strategy

Milton Heritage Properties Business Strategy

Summary

The Ruhl Farmstead and the John Willmott Farmhouse are two historically significant properties located at the southern edge of the Town of Milton. Currently, the area surrounding these properties is undergoing a transformation from a rural to an urban condition. The Ruhl Farmstead is to be incorporated within a new 7.28 ha (17.9 ac) community park, while the John Wilmott Farmhouse will be incorporated in a 8.15 ha (20.15 ac) block set inside of a larger community park and sports centre. Both properties contain a rich variety of natural, cultural and built heritage elements including barns and outbuildings.

In May 2010, ERA Architects in partnership with urbanMetrics, was contracted by the Town of Milton to develop a business strategy for the Ruhl Farmstead and John Willmott Farmhouse. This study details the geographic and planning context of the site, guiding principals and criteria for site development, and develops a series of potential business approaches and site interventions to help the Town of Milton develop a dynamic park program.
